Did you know that 90% of cats over the age of 12 suffer from Osteoarthritis?

It can be much harder to notice joint disease in cats as, compared to dogs, they are very good at hiding pain and, being small and agile, are better able to compensate. Nonetheless, the arthritic changes in their joints can be very painful and have a significant impact on their quality of life.

It can be very difficult to manage pain in cats. There are not many products that are registered for use, cats can be very difficult to medicate and often we have other health issues, particularly compromised kidney function.

A new product has very recently become available for the management of painful arthritic change in cats. It is a monoclonal antibody that blocks the Nerve Growth Factor.

In the foetus or newborn, Nerve Growth Factor is responsible for the development of the nervous system. In older animals with osteoarthritis, Nerve Growth Factor drives pain.

It has been available in the UK for over 18 months. There, over 90% of vets who have used it recommend it, 94% of owners noted improvement in the quality of life of their cat and 85% noted an improvement in their own quality of life!

The product is a simple subcutaneous injection that is given once a month. As a monoclonal antibody, it is extremely safe to use even in cats with kidney or other disease.
